Disease Overview

There are two glands on either side of the alveolus at the base of the large tongue. If one or both sides of the gland become inflamed and swollen, it is called tonsillitis. This disease is often seen with cold. If not treated well in the first stage, the disease grows and becomes large like betel nut. Later the peke bursts and releases pus.

  • Gargling with rectified spirit mixed with equal amount of water relieves tonsillitis. It is better to wrap a warm cloth around the neck. Sago, barley, hot milk, juices of various fruits are good.
